Testimonials

Here are comments from some of my professors at the University of Michigan.

On March 16, 2008:
I have followed Therese Nielsen’s stay at the School of Information with great interest. This past fall semester she took my course on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). She got the highest grade in the class, a rare A+ from me. Her writing was superb, and her participation in a semester-long group project was exemplary. I subsequently have seen her active in the School on a number of fronts. She is clearly a bright, motivated, and involved student, on her way to becoming a leading professional.

Therese did an outstanding job on her design project in my IOE 536 class (Cognitive Ergonomics): a project that was concerned with a re-design of the graduate student website for Industrial and Operations Engineering. Therese and her team identified critical shortcomings, developed novel and interesting solutions to these problems, and thus created a new site that clearly improves students' ability to locate information about admissions criteria, degree requirements, and department faculty. The design provides effective attentional guidance and better supports navigation through a rather large information space. Therese took a lead role in the interface design and demonstrated her ability to work successfully as a team member.

Therese was an exemplary student in an evolving, loosely-defined design class: her classmates clearly valued the advanced sketching and Flash skills she added to the mix. Therese applied her skills to a model project, helping the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Her class and follow-on classes were greatly strengthened by Therese's contributions!
